Narrative Text


The purpose of Narrative text is to entertain listeners or readers with a true experience or an imaginary one. The characteristic of the text is marked by conflict and resolution. a narrative story is written from the writer's point of view and can include the writer's feelings and view point on a certain event. The narrative texts may include folktales, myths, legends, etc.

Basically, narrative text is devided into the three parts, namely:
  1. Orientation      : sets the scene and introduces the participants
  2. Complication  : crisis of the problem/crisis arises
  3. Resolution       : solve of the problem, for better or worse
Lexicogrammatical features:
  • focus on specific participants
  • use of materials processes
  • use of relational and mental processes
  • use of temporal conjunction and temporal circumstances
  • use of past tense
